Starline Theorie is a San Diego, CA based collective. Formed in 2002, the group’s original members contributed an amalgam of influences and styles; ranging from Middle Eastern, South American, and Chinese to more obvious touchstones like trip hop, post-punk and dub, the collective released Vega in 2003, followed by Obon in 2004. They performed throughout the Southwest of the United States until 2010 before focusing on recording sessions, with a sporadic live appearance every few years.
January 2024 saw the first releases in a while. First out was Sonic Tears featuring Freedom on the mic. In the vein of Ghost Town by the Specials, it’s a spooky ambient piece with a lockstep groove. Just three weeks later, Dali featuring Melanie Fontana on vocals was released. A thought piece set to an ambient modal progression, the tune begs for multiple listenings to peel back the layers.
Various members have come and gone, but the two mainstays are Thomas Fuhr on guitars and Wood on Bass. Over the years, recording has never ceased and there are said to be 30 or 40 tracks in various stages of completion, many of which will be seeing the light of day in 2024 and 2025.
Electric Blanket will be releasing a full length Starline album in various formats in the
second half of 2024.
